A journalist gets inside North Korea and uncovers how the Kim dynasty built a working political religion, with its own god, scripture, relics, miracles, heaven, hell and devil.
×Posing as a sympathetic journalist, Moez Ben Gharbia entered Pyongyang and filmed its rituals, relics and public devotion from the inside. His footage is the starting point of a film about belief manufactured by the state.
The film traces how Kim Il-sung became a divine “Eternal President”, how ideology and institutions keep that faith alive, how a caste system and labour camps enforce it, and how the divine story passes to Kim Jong-un. It ends at the Demilitarized Zone, with a question that reaches far beyond North Korea.
